Rivkala, meaning ‘to connect’, is an emerging Newcastle-based neo-soul vocalist, songwriter, bandleader and pianist, and winner of Drake Music’s Emergent Artists of 2023. Raised in Manchester on jazz, funk, disco, psych rock, klezmer, and soul, her stage presence is full of melodrama, and her writing characterised by bass-driven grooves and socially poignant storytelling. An alumni of Generator NE’s First Notes Youth Music programme, she’s spent the past year building momentum and a following through gigs across the North, including festivals such as Kelburn Garden Party and at legendary venues like LSO St Luke’s, Hoochie Coochie, The Cluny and Bobiks.
