SUSTAINABILITY AT THE GREAT ESCAPE 2025

At The Great Escape, we are all about great music and a great future. That’s why we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact — from powering our beach stages to sorting our waste and everything in between.

What We’re Doing
Powered by Plants (Literally!)
All our generators run on 100% hydro-treated vegetable oil (HVO) made from waste oils. Plus, we’re using smart battery systems, LED tower lights with solar sensors, and even solar panels.

Beach + Jubilee Square Energy Systems:
* Super-efficient battery setups to reduce emissions
* Solar arrays to trickle-charge batteries
* Real-time energy monitoring for max efficiency
* No unnecessary generator usage — only when needed!

Water
* Free mains-supplied drinking water taps — bring your reusable bottle!
* Glassware at panels & sessions (bye, plastic cups)
* Traders must dispose of wastewater properly (no dumping on the beach!)

Food & Waste
Zero-Waste Goals
We’re ramping up recycling and waste segregation around the festival
Food traders must:
* Use compostable cups, plates, and cutlery
* Serve drinks in cans only — no plastic bottles
* Skip the single-use condiment sachets

Other steps:
* No printed programmes or tote bag clutter
* Litter-picking legends will keep our sites clean
* Festival teams bring their own bottles & cups

Supporting Local
We’re proud to work with 70% local suppliers and crew based right here in Brighton — supporting the community that supports us.

Greener Travel
All our suppliers log their vehicle type and mileage — helping us track and lower transport emissions.

Let’s Talk Sustainability
Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword — it’s part of every planning meeting and training session. Everyone from staff to volunteers is on board.
