The Independent Returns as Exclusive News Partner for The Great Escape 2026

We’re delighted to announce that The Independent returns as the exclusive news partner for The Great Escape 2026, marking the fourth year of our ongoing collaboration as we celebrate 20 years of the festival.

From Wednesday 13th to Saturday 16th May, The Great Escape will once again transform Brighton into the global home of new music discovery and The Independent will be at the heart of it all.

A Partnership Celebrating New Music

United by a shared passion for championing emerging talent, this partnership brings together editorial storytelling, live showcases and unforgettable festival moments.

Across the four days, The Independent will play a key role in shaping the festival experience, from hosting stages, keynote sessions and spotlight shows to delivering exclusive coverage direct from Brighton.

Rory Bett, CEO of MAMA Festivals, said:
“It’s fantastic to be continuing our partnership with The Independent, who share our passion for championing new music and emerging talent. Their involvement across the festival – from the Beach welcome party, the Peaches Spotlight Show at Brighton Dome, to the new music showcase at Daltons – adds real depth to the programme.”

The Independent Welcome Party at TGE Beach Site

The Independent will present the official festival welcome party on Brighton Beach at the TGE Beach Site on Wednesday 13th May kicking off TGE 2026 in style. Expect a special live performance from rising alt-pop/rock artist Marlee, setting the tone for four days of discovery by the sea. Access to the Welcome Party is via a delegates pass only.

Conference Highlight: Peaches in Conversation with ILĀ

Extending its presence beyond the live programme, The Independent will also present a special keynote conversation as part of the The Great Escape Conference.

Taking place on Friday 15th May, this exclusive session will see Peaches in conversation with ILĀ, offering insight into creativity, career longevity and pushing boundaries in music.

The discussion will be hosted by Roisin O’Connor, bringing one of the festival’s most exciting voices together with one of music journalism’s most respected interviewers

Spotlight Show: Peaches at Brighton Dome

One of the standout moments of our 20th anniversary programme, The Independent will present the Spotlight Show featuring Peaches at the iconic Brighton Dome Concert Hall on Friday 15th May.
A true boundary-pushing icon, Peaches returns with her first album in over a decade, bringing her uncompromising live show to Brighton.
Joining her is recording artist and drag performer Bimini.

Standalone tickets for this show are on sale now, with festival wristband holders also able to register for our free ticket giveaway.

The Independent Stage at Daltons

Continuing its commitment to grassroots music, The Independent will host a dedicated new music showcase at Daltons on Friday 15th May (12pm–4pm).
