Formed in the orbit of a South London pub, the spirit of Mên An Tol’s music can be traced back to frontman Bill Jefferson’s own musical education in his native Cornwall where he’d play folk sessions in and around the local pubs – in-fact the band name itself is taken from a rural site of ancient stones.
Completed by Felix Knox (Mandolin), Max Silvey (Bass), Tom Stevens (Drums) and Robert Wiseman (Guitar), the band’s sound combines the jangle of 1980’s alternative music with vibrant storytelling, retaining the spirit that “folk music is people music”.
2025 releases included the anthemic ‘Not Ideal’ (produced by Carlos O’Connell of Fontaines DC) and the urgent confidence of ’NW1’ – showing the ambition to write galvanising songs in the vein of artists like The Waterboys and The Smiths.
