Enji

(Germany)

Enji is quickly gaining attention for her unique sound and captivating visual identity, attracting fans like BBC 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson and an invitation to perform a session for COLORS in Berlin. Her previous album Ursgal earned praise from outlets such as Nowness, Loud and Quiet, and CLASH, with MOJO describing her as “like Ella Fitzgerald singing in Khalkha.”

Born in Ulaanbaatar, Enji grew up in a yurt in a working-class family. Her passion for music, dance, and literature has been a lifelong drive, and she now shares these influences through her music with a band made up of musicians from all over the world. Alongside long-time collaborators—guitarist Paul Brändle and bassist Munguntovch Tsolmonbayar—Enji is joined in the studio by Brazilian jazz drummer Mariá Portugal and experimental clarinetist Joana Queiroz. Both bring their own cultural influences to Enji’s music, complementing her Mongolian roots with their rich, diverse sounds.
