In 1922, W.B. Yeats wrote Meditations in Time of Civil War, a poem blending fantasy and history. This theme echoes in The Neon Gate, the fifth album from Canadian band Nap Eyes. After a three-year hiatus, the album features nine tracks, including adaptations of Yeats’ “I See Phantoms of Hatred” and Pushkin’s “Demons.”
The band blends their signature themes—philosophy, fantasy, and technological anxiety—with experimental approaches, including longform improvisation. Tracks like “Eight Tired Starlings” and “Isolation” mix cosmic imagery with everyday life, while “Feline Wave Race” explores time and space, from medieval castles to ’90s video games.
Recorded collaboratively with synths and remote recording, The Neon Gate balances absurdity and depth, marking a new evolution in Nap Eyes’ sound.
