Talking about the title track, which was produced by James Bagshaw of Temples and mixed by Marta Salogni (M.I.A, Bjork, Liars, Sampha, Orielles), Stock said:
Take It Too Far is about a relationship so fragile it can be undone in an instant. Despite the people in the song being well aware it’s probably not a good idea, something keeps bringing them back together and the fallout happens all over again. All of my songs start with me and an acoustic guitar recording into my phone. I’ve got early demos of this which sound dark and bleak but James Bagshaw’s production and Marta Salogni’s mix made the song come alive and we turned it into a joyous, gritty pop song. There’s a friction between the words and the music which I’m really happy with.
The Take It Too Far EP, already feels like a classic debut – ambitious, effortless and with a confident swagger, it’s some calling card for someone from Milton Keynes barely out of their teens.
It perfectly encapsulates the reason Heavenly Recordings fell in love and recently signed this prodigiously talented young man. An honest, astute and emotionally charged songwriter, it’s blatantly obvious his aspirations and vision stretch far beyond the Buckinghamshire borders. This is a man set to go far.
